Last editorial review: 2026-07-07
Scope
Operators first placing timber and timber products on the EU market; traders subject to traceability record-keeping.
Commodities covered
Wood
Key obligations
- Prohibition on placing illegally harvested timber and derived products on the market (Art. 4(1)).
- Operator due diligence system: information access, risk assessment, risk mitigation (Art. 4(2), Art. 6).
- Trader traceability: identify suppliers and customers (Art. 5).
Notes
The EUDR repeals the EUTR with transitional arrangements (Art. 37 EUDR): timber products placed on the market during the transitional window remain subject to EUTR requirements. The precise transitional position for a given product depends on when it was placed on the market and on the amended EUDR application dates — verify the applicable transitional cut-offs before advising.
